Business Meeting to Discuss a New Strategies

How to start the conversation?

Today we’re going to focus on one of the most important parts of any meeting — the opening. The way you start sets the tone for the whole discussion. If you introduce the topic clearly and share your purpose confidently, people will be more engaged and ready to participate. In this lesson, we’ll look at examples of strong meeting openings and practice how to make our own.

A good opening should:

  1. Welcome participants

  2. State the purpose clearly

  3. Outline the agenda

  4. Invite engagement

1. Opening the Meeting

Example 1 —  Strategy Discussion

Good morning, everyone. Thank you for joining today’s meeting.

Our goal today is to develop new strategies to improve our online marketing reach.
First, we’ll review our recent campaign performance, then we’ll brainstorm new ideas, and finally, we’ll agree on an action plan.
I’d like everyone to share their thoughts openly so we can find the best solutions together."

Key learnings: Good morning everyone, Thank you for joining, Our goal today,  I would like everyone to share

Example 2-  Problem solving

Good afternoon, everyone. I appreciate you all making time for this meeting.
We need to address the recent delays in our product deliveries.
I’ve prepared three possible approaches we can discuss, but I also want to hear your ideas.
By the end of this meeting, we should have a clear strategy to reduce delivery times

Key learnings:  I appreciate you all making time , we need to address, By the end of this meeting

🙋PRACTICE:

✂Imagine you are the person leading a meeting. You need to welcome people, tell them why they are there, and make them ready to listen.

You are leading a meeting to decide on a new advertising strategy.

2. Discussion Phase

After opening a meeting, the next important stage is the discussion phase, where we brainstorm ideas from everyone. In this stage, participants use expressions to ask questions, share opinions, and show whether they agree or disagree. The goal of this lesson is to help my students learn how to participate confidently in the discussion phase, by using right expression.

Before sharing an example you have to learn some phrases below-

1. Asking for Clarification or More Information you can use -

  • "Could you explain that in more detail?"

  • "What do you mean by…?"

  • "Can you give an example?"

2. Showing You’re Listening

  • "I see what you mean."

  • "That’s an interesting point."

  • "I understand your idea."

3. Agreeing

  • "I completely agree with you."

  • "That’s a great idea."

  • "I think that would work well."

4. Politely Disagreeing

  • "I understand your point, but I see it differently because…"

  • "That might be difficult to apply in our situation."

  • "I’m not sure about that approach — what if we try…

5. Building on Someone’s Idea

  • "I like that suggestion, and we could also…"

  • "Adding to what you said, maybe we could…"

  • "That makes me think of another idea…

Example- How to improve employee wellbeing at work?

Eve: "I think we should introduce a flexible working schedule so people can choose their start and finish times."

Riya: "That’s an interesting idea. Could you explain how it would work in practice?"

Eve: "Yes — for example, employees could start anytime between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., as long as they complete their daily hours."

James: "I agree this could improve work–life balance. But I’m worried it might be harder to schedule meetings."

Riya: "That’s a good point. Maybe we could set fixed hours in the middle of the day when everyone is available."

Eve: "Yes, that sounds like a fair solution."

 🙋PRACTICE:

✂Brainstorming ideas for increasing social media engagement.

3. Closing the Meeting

As I mentioned earlier, opening and closing both are crucial steps of any type of meeting. opening a meeting sets the tone, closing it leaves a final impression and ensures everyone is clear on what happens next.

A strong closing:

  1. Summarizes key points

  2. Confirms decisions

  3. Assigns next steps

  4. Thanks participants

  5. Ends on a positive, forward-looking note

Before an example--

Let's learn some Useful Phrases for Closing a Meeting

  • "Today, we discussed three main points: …"

3. Thanking Participants
